Caribbean Literature: The Steel Pan of the 21st Century

Cecly Ann Mitchell is a Trinidadian novelist who has been writing short stories and novellas, since she was a student at secondary school. Her first novella Return to Me was written when she was 13 years old. A descendent of the Jean Pierres of Guadeloupe, she continues to be fascinated by the history of the French Caribbean and its impact on their English speaking neighbors. Mitchell’s work has been published in several Caribbean media, including Image magazine, Trinidad Express, Trinidad Guardian and the Independent newspapers. Her blog ‘Diary of the Uninhibited Diplomat’ is popular among readers of contemporary Caribbean literature. Mitchell was a NALIS First Time Author Awardee in 2011. Her book include the novels Le Noireau, La Marin, and Madras Raja & Co.

David L. King has been writing prose fiction for six years and has written three novels and one short story. He writes in many genres, including detective/romance, historical fiction and general fiction. He is currently pursuing the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. David is a long-standing member of the Writers Union of Trinidad and Tobago.

Trinidadian writer June Aming has been published in the compilations Moving Right Along, The Caribbean Writer vol. 26, and in the forthcoming collections Visions, Voicing our Visions and 16.  Was shortlisted for Small Axe competition in 2014, and has been a featured author at the Miami International Book Fair in 2013 and again in 2014. She is currently working on a collection of short stories.

Kavita Ganness is a literary and visual artist from Trinidad and Tobago. Her collection of poems, Emerald Journey was published by the New Voices Press. She has been published in Generation Lion Magazine, The Caribbean Review of Gender Studies, She SEX Prose & Poetry Sex and the Caribbean Woman, as well as Susumba’s Book Bag. She was a participant in the Cropper Foundation’s 8th Residential Creative Writers Workshop in Balandra, Trinidad, and has mentored with renowned Caribbean writer Earl Lovelace. She is a member of the Writers Union of Trinidad and Tobago.

Michael Anthony is an eminent Caribbean author and historian, who has been named one of the "50 most influential people in Trinidad and Tobago". In 1979 Michael Anthony was awarded the Hummingbird Medal for his contributions to Literature, and he received an honorary doctorate from the University of the West Indies in 2003. In his five-decade career, Anthony has had over thirty titles published, including novels, collections of short fiction, books for younger readers, travelogues and histories. He has also been a contributor to many anthologies and journals, including Caribbean Prose, Island Voices, Stories from the Caribbean, Response, The Sun’s Eyes, West Indian Narrative, The Bajan, and BIM magazine.
