data-renderer-start-pos=\"451\"><strong data-prosemirror-content-type=\"mark\" data-prosemirror-mark-name=\"strong\">Jemimah Wei<\/strong> was born and raised in Singapore; she is now based between Singapore and the United States. She was a Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford University and a Felipe P. De Alba Fellow at Columbia University, where she earned her MFA. A recipient of awards and fellowships from Singapore\u2019s National Arts Council, Sewanee Writers\u2019 Conference, Bread Loaf Writers\u2019 Conference, and Writers in Paradise, she was named one of the National Book Foundation\u2019s 5 Under 35 honorees and Narrative\u2019s \u201c30 Below 30\u201d writers and is a Francine Ringold Award for New Writers honoree. Her fiction has won the William Van Dyke Short Story Prize and appears in <em data-prosemirror-content-type=\"mark\" data-prosemirror-mark-name=\"em\">Guernica, Narrative<\/em>, ak <em data-prosemirror-content-type=\"mark\" data-prosemirror-mark-name=\"em\">Nimrod<\/em>, among other publications. For close to a decade, Wei was a host for various broadcast and digital channels, and she has written and produced short films and travel guides for Laneige, Airbnb, and Nikon. 41st St, Miami, FL 33137<br \/>\nRSVP: $10<\/p>\n<p>Derived from the Greek word for \u201cdescription,\u201d ekphrasis is the practice of writing poetry inspired by visual art. In this workshop, we\u2019ll expand that definition by approaching ekphrasis not as writing about artwork, but as writing to, from, and with the work itself. Through a series of guided prompts and generative writing time, participants will engage with the current exhibitions at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami to experiment with a range of ekphrastic approaches. Participants will also have the opportunity to contribute a revised poem to a post-workshop zine, extending the conversation between art and text beyond the gallery space. Writers of all levels welcome.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<p data-prosemirror-content-type=\"node\" data-prosemirror-node-name=\"paragraph\" data-prosemirror-node-block=\"true\">Simone Zapata is a poet, editor, and educator from San Jos\u00e9, California. Her work appears in <em data-prosemirror-content-type=\"mark\" data-prosemirror-mark-name=\"em\">Beloit Poetry Journal<\/em>, <em data-prosemirror-content-type=\"mark\" data-prosemirror-mark-name=\"em\">Dilettante Army<\/em>, <em data-prosemirror-content-type=\"mark\" data-prosemirror-mark-name=\"em\">Foglifter<\/em>, <em data-prosemirror-content-type=\"mark\" data-prosemirror-mark-name=\"em\">Inverted Syntax<\/em>, ak <em data-prosemirror-content-type=\"mark\" data-prosemirror-mark-name=\"em\">Jounal Liter\u00e8 Brink<\/em>, among others. She’s the recipient of scholarships and fellowships from Community of Writers, Banff Centre, and California Institute of the Arts, where she earned an MFA in creative writing. Su formaci\u00f3n musical, que comenz\u00f3 a los 9 a\u00f1os, culmin\u00f3 con su graduaci\u00f3n con honores del Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) en 2005. A lo largo de su carrera, ha sido miembro de algunas de las orquestas sinf\u00f3nicas y de c\u00e1mara m\u00e1s destacadas de Cuba, como la Orquesta de Ballet y \u00d3pera y la Orquesta de C\u00e1mara de La Habana, donde actu\u00f3 bajo la batuta de numerosos directores distinguidos. Su versatilidad tambi\u00e9n la ha llevado a participar en diversos proyectos de m\u00fasica popular, donde ha demostrado sus habilidades como violonchelista, vocalista y percusionista. Ha colaborado en producciones de estudio, video\/DVD y teatrales con artistas de renombre internacional como Chucho Vald\u00e9s, Omara Portuondo y la Compa\u00f1\u00eda de Danza Lizt Alfonso.
