Paul S. George

PAUL S. GEORGE is the resident historian at HistoryMiami Museum, a Smithsonian Affiliate. A native Miamian, George is a Miami Dade Community College and University of Miami graduate. He holds a master’s and a Ph.D. in history from Florida State University, and has taught at Florida State University, Florida A&M University, Florida Atlantic University, the University of Miami, and Miami Dade College, where he holds emeritus status. George has written 17 books, including two award-winning titles, hundreds of articles, and numerous book reviews, columns, and unpublished manuscripts. He served as president of the Florida Historical Society, vice chairman of Miami’s Heritage Preservation Board, director of Broward County’s Historic Preservation Board, and president of The Wolfson Archives. He has curated several historical exhibitions at HistoryMiami and the Jewish Museum of Florida at Florida International University, and conducts award-winning history tours of Miami and surrounding areas. He has received several teaching awards, including from Wolfson’s National Society of Leadership and Success and the Dade Heritage Trust. George is a member of the Miami-Dade County Library Advisory Board and the Grievance Committee of the Florida Bar. He is currently the editor of the historical academic journal Tequesta.
