(Becker, Jan) Jan Becker earned her MFA from Florida International University. She is on the regular faculty at Reading Queer Academy in Miami, where she teaches a boot camp for queer writers. Her work has appeared in Jai-Alai magazine, Colorado Review, Emerge, Sliver of Stone, y el Florida Book Review, among others. She was the winner of the 2015 AWP Intro Journals Award in Nonfiction. Her debut book-length publication, The Sunshine Chronicles (Jitney Books), is a humorous memoir of surprising depth and literary innovation that takes a familiar medium, Facebook posts, and elevates it to a poetic examination of the world at large through one woman’s day-to-day encounters with neighbors and troublesome houseguests. Surprisingly philosophical in nature, yet accessible and shocking in its candor, The Sunshine Chronicles marks the beginning of a new era in modern memoir, and blends the popularity of hybrid forms with lyricism, and an unusual reverse chronological narrative.
