Workshop: How to Get Your Nonfiction Book Published with Ada Calhoun

Gratis

Wednesday, February 5 (1 day)
7 – 9 p.m. | MDC Koubek Center

Have a memoir you’re dying to sell? Wondering how the publishing industry works? Eager to see if you’re properly communicating your book idea? In this intensive two-hour workshop, prolific author Ada Calhoun will teach participants how to craft a nonfiction book proposal that gives them the best possible shot with agents and editors. Class members will present their book ideas to one another for critique. They will also participate in writing exercises that will help them craft appealing overviews, appropriate lists of comparison titles, and compelling cover letters. If you already have a proposal draft, bring it along! If you’re just starting to think about getting your work out into the world, that’s fine too! By the end of the class, you will have a rough draft of a book proposal and a game plan for publication. Bring a laptop or a notebook!

Ada Calhoun is a New York City-based journalist and the author of St. Marks Is Dead, named a best book of the year by the Boston Globe y KirkusWedding Toasts I’ll Never Give, named one of the top ten memoirs of the year by W; and the “generation-defining” sensation Why We Can’t Sleep, which came out in January 2020. A popular freelance writer and editor, she has also ghostwritten or co-written fourteen nonfiction books for major publishers.
