DOREEN CARVAJAL is a journalist, author, and former New York Times culture reporter. Trained as an art merchant at Paris’ historic Drouot auction house, she brings a reporter’s eye to the intertwined histories of art, war, memory, and restitution. She is also the author of The Girl in Blue: Renoir’s Portrait of a Dynasty Erased (Grand Central Publishing) and The Forgetting River: A Modern Tale of Survival, Identity, and the Inquisition, a memoir tracing family secrets, religious identity, and the enduring legacy of the Spanish Inquisition. She lives in a 300-year-old stone farmhouse in the heart of impressionist country, near the Oise River outside Paris.
