Howard Davis

HOWARD DAVIS arrived in Miami in 1980. Two years later, he became an amateur DJ on community radio WDNA and organized “alternative” dance parties until 1984, when he founded Artifacts Artist Group at Fire & Ice, a weekly showcase of emerging artists. Davis opened his Artifacts Art Salon on Michigan Avenue in South Beach in 1986. That year, Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine featured him in an in-depth article profiling artists associated with the group. In subsequent years and decades Howard and several artists involved from the early days have continued to collaborate on installations for nightclub, private, and corporate events. In 2010 the University of Miami created an Artifacts Artist Group Special Collection to preserve artworks, photographs, flyers, and other media related to the group.
