MICHAEL DEIBERT first visited Haiti in 1997 and has been working as a journalist, author, and analyst there for three decades. His writing has appeared in The Guardian, la Financial Times, Bloomberg, The Washington Post, El Wall Street Journal, la Miami Herald, Política exterior, Le Monde diplomatique, y Folha de São Paulo, among other media. He has been a featured commentator on international affairs for the BBC, Al Jazeera, Channel 4, France 24, and NPR, as well as in the pages of The New York Times, The Economist, El País, Der Spiegel, and other publications. He received a fellowship from the International Peace Research Association and was selected as a finalist for the Kurt Schork Award in International Journalism, sponsored by the Institute for War & Peace Reporting, in recognition of his work in the Democratic Republic of Congo. With the Pen in One Hand and the Sword in the Other: Haiti and the United States in the Nineteenth Century (University of Georgia Press) is his latest book.
