RUTH BEHAR is the Newbery Honor Award-winning and Pura Belpré Award-winning author of the middle-grade novels Chica afortunada y rota, Letters from Cuba, y A través de tantos mares (Nancy Paulsen Books), along with the picture books Tía Fortuna’s New Home: A Jewish Cuban Journey y A Snowy Hanukkah for Luz (Quill Tree Books). Behar was born in Cuba and was the first Latina to receive a MacArthur Genius Grant. She is delighted to be the co-author with her son, Gabriel Frye-Behar, of Pepita conoce a Bebita y Picadillo for Paulina (Norton Young Readers). She lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and travels frequently to Miami and New York to visit with family and friends.
