AMY KAUFMAN BURK grew up in Hollywood Hills, California, surrounded by creativity. Her father wrote screenplays and her home was filled with authors and thousands of books. She graduated from Hollywood High School then studied psychology at Yale College, taking as many literature classes as she could fit into her schedule. She graduated cum laude with distinction in her major and a transcript of courses including Sigmund Freud, Walt Whitman, social psychology, and medieval plays. She earned a master’s degree in health and medical sciences from University of California, Berkeley, and a doctorate in mental health from University of California, San Francisco. After practicing psychotherapy for more than 20 years, she began writing. She met her husband in college. They have three grown children, one wonderful son-in-law, one wonderful soon-to-be daughter-in-law, one granddog and two grandcats. She wrote Hollywood Pride as she watched rage and hatred surge in the U.S. Her novel is her voice for a stronger today and a better tomorrow.
