Professor Scott McCartney, aka DJ Smoove, is an adjunct professor and a 28-year U.S. Coast Guard veteran. He crafted a pioneering three-credit DJ curriculum at Miami Dade College’s music department at its Kendall campus – the first in the nation. He also started the S Foundation, a nonprofit that brings music and turntable skills to underserved youths. He formed the Turntable Sharks DJ Club to give DJ students the opportunity to spin and curate campus events. His belief: DJing is a true musician’s craft that can lift communities, one beat at a time.
