Alejandro Portes

ALEJANDRO PORTES is a law professor and distinguished arts and sciences scholar at the University of Miami, and the Howard Harrison and Gabrielle S. Beck Professor of Sociology (emeritus) and founding director of the Center for Migration and Development at Princeton University. He has written 250 articles and chapters on national development, international migration, Latin American and Caribbean urbanization, and economic sociology, and has published 30 books, including City on the Edge – The Transformation of Miami, co-authored with Alex Stepick, and Immigrant America: A Portrait, now in its fourth edition.
