Nathaniel Wells is a biographer and historian of the American South. His latest book, The River’s Memory: Slavery and Reclamation in the Mississippi Delta, was published by Yale University Press in 2024. Wells’s essays have appeared in The Atlantic and Smithsonian Magazine. He lectures nationally on historical memory and preservation.
