CARLOS GUTIERREZ is the author of Sheer Will: Learning to Lead When There Is No Path (St. Martin’s Press). He joined Kellogg’s Mexican subsidiary as a sales representative and rose to become the youngest CEO in the company’s history. Born in Havana, he became a U.S. citizen in 1965. He served as U.S. secretary of commerce for George W. Bush and was the vice chair of Citigroup, and has held board positions at Occidental Petroleum, MetLife, and the George W. Bush Institute Advisory Council, among others. He was also the founder and chair of Global Political Strategies and a co-founder of EmPath, and is a regular commentator on CNBC. He and his wife, Edilia, have three children and four grandchildren and live in Washington, D.C.
