In this FREE virtual creative writing workshop mini-series, teens will partner with experienced teaching artists to empower the creative writing process, from drafting to performance to publishing, to boost literacy and empower youth in Miami through community-based writing activities.
This Fall’s theme is Best of the Vault, a curated selection of fan-favorite presentations from previous Speak Up programs. Join us weekly for creative writing Throwback Thursdays after school!
The program is open to all teens (ages 13-19) and is as free of charge as it is free of homework. No previous experience necessary!

Don’t Blink: Nightmare Poetics with Marci Calabretta Cancio-Bello
MARCI CALABRETTA CANCIO-BELLO is the author of Hour of the Ox (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2016), winner of the Donald Hall Prize for Poetry. She co-translated Yi Won’s The World’s Lightest Motorcycle (Zephyr Press, 2021), which won the 2022 Translation Grand Prize from the Literature Translation Institute of Korea. Cancio-Bello has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, Knight Foundation, and American Literary Translators Association, and her work has appeared in The New York Times, Poets & Writers, and more. She is co-founder of the Adoptee Literary Festival and serves as Director of Programs and Marketing for Miami Book Fair.
