Emily Doyle‘s debut book Please Don’t Touch the Body: Stories is a collection of 11 genre-bending tales. A Japanese woman finds healing in a secret life as a sex advice columnist. Ronald Reagan is reincarnated as the puppy of a young, queer owner. And a young woman grapples with the rules learned in her religious childhood, the freedoms of her adult life, and her actual desires. In Fat Swim: Fiction, Emma Copley Eisenberg offers a collection of interconnected stories featuring a cast of characters navigating bodies, queerness, power, and sex. Consider the title story: A young girl looks to a group of fat women at her local pool to teach her about her body. For good or ill, our bodies remind us what it is to be alive. Lydia Mathis’ Desperate Bodies: Stories excavates the desire, humor, and horror in the everyday lives of Black women and girls, exploring what it means to be subjected to imbalances of power through the female perspective. Set in the American South, these stories explore what we’re willing to do to ourselves and others in service of our desires, presenting a thrillingly dark ride through the raw moments of womanhood. Moderating is Dontaira Terrell, journalist and editor-in-chief of The Buckeye Review.
