Scott McCartney, aka DJ Smoove, is an adjunct professor and a 28-year U.S. Coast Guard veteran. He crafted a pioneering three-credit DJ curriculum at Miami Dade College’s music department at its Kendall campus – the first in the nation. He also started the S Foundation, a nonprofit that brings music and turntable skills to underserved youths. He formed the Turntable Sharks DJ Club to give students the opportunity to spin and curate campus events. His belief: DJing is a true musician’s craft that can lift communities, one beat at a time.
