CHANTALLE F. VERNA, PH.D., is author of Haiti and the Uses of America: Post-U.S. Occupation Promises, and co-editor of The Haiti Reader and of essays published in The Journal of Haitian Studies, Diplomatic History, and the Routledge Volumes Geographies of the Haitian Diaspora and Decolonization and the United Nations. She is currently collaborating on projects that revisit historical memories about Jean-Jacques Dessalines, the contributions of individuals from Ayiti (Haiti) to world history through the lens of survival and service leadership, and memories captured on vinyl records. She is an associate professor of history and international relations at Florida International University.
