GAËL OCTAVIA is a Martinican novelist, short story writer, playwright, filmmaker, and painter. Her collection L’Étrangeté de Mathilde T. et autres nouvelles won the 2025 Goncourt de la nouvelle. Her novels include La Fin de Mame Baby, which received a special mention from the Prix Wepler, and La Bonne Histoire de Madeleine Démétrius. Her plays have been read or staged in France, the United States, and the Caribbean. Her work explores women’s lives, migration, exclusion, and the instability of the stories people tell about themselves and others.
