Born in Karachi, Pakistan, NIGAR ALAM spent her childhood in Turkey, Nigeria, Italy, Kenya, Indonesia, and the United States before returning to Karachi. She has an MBA and CPA and has worked in brand management and auditing. She currently teaches at Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Minnesota. Under the Tamarind Tree: A Novel (G.P. Putnam’s Sons) is her debut novel.
