PEPE MAR was born in Mexico and lives and works in Miami. He received his BFA from the California College of the Arts (CCA), San Francisco, and received his MFA from Florida International University. He participated in the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2011). Current and upcoming exhibitions of his work include a large-scale solo show at the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, New Hampshire, accompanied by the monograph Pepe Mar: Dream House (Scala), curated by Anastasia Kinigopoulo, the museum’s curator of modern and contemporary art. Other exhibitions include The Atrium Project: 10 Years and 10 Stories at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, Missouri, and Something Borrowed, Something New at the Sarasota Art Museum in Sarasota, Florida. Recent solo exhibitions included a 15-year career survey, Myth and Magic, at the Tampa Museum of Art (2023- 2024) in Tampa, Florida; Tesoro: Pepe Mar’s Love Letter to the Frost at Frost Art Museum in Miami (2020-2022); and others. Mar’s work has been exhibited widely and is included in major collections, and has appeared in The New York Times, Artforum, ARTnews, Art in America, The Artnewspaper, Bomb, Burnaway, Panorama, and numerous others.
