What if a vessel could carry a story? Join Honduran-born Miami artist Angela Bolaños for a creative journey inspired by the rich tradition of Lenca pottery from Honduras! Using the shape of a vessel as your canvas, you’ll mix drawing, patterns, symbols, collage, and colorful thread to create a visual language all your own. Then, fill your vessel with a story inspired by memories, people, places, dreams, traditions, or your own imagination. Along the way, discover how handmade objects can carry stories and traditions from one generation to the next, and create a vessel that holds a story uniquely yours!
This event is a ticketed Create! featured workshop. All featured workshops require a free ticket to attend due to limited seating. Tickets may be picked up at the Info Booth in Children’s Alley; a standby line will be available for each workshop in the event a ticketed attendee does not show up.
Angela Bolaños is a multidisciplinary artist and educator living and working in Miami. Her work is inspired by notions of collaborating with inanimate objects to create emotionally expressive, process-driven works that center on the intersection of memory, mental health, identity, and transculturation. Using textiles, reflective surfaces, found objects, edibles, and plants, she allows for materials to interact with each other and recreate “memory landscapes” which can become recognizable stories and trigger memories based on her individual lens and life experiences. As an art educator, her mission is to create works of art conducive to critical thinking and interpretation. She presents these works in inclusive spaces where transparent dialogues can take place and serve as growth opportunities for individuals looking to become agents of change in their communities. She is a ProjectArt 2021-2022 Education and Social Impact Resident Artist, as well as the inaugural 2021-2022 School Initiatives Resident Teaching Artist at the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami.
