In Emma Knight’s The Life Cycle of the Common Octopus, Pen arrives at the University of Edinburgh and is drawn into the orbit of a famous writer tied to her parents’ past. As she uncovers their secret and falls in love for the first time, she faces the shocks of adulthood in this portrait of campus life, sexual awakening, and the many ways women become mothers. In Jessica Soffer‘s This Is a Love Story: A Novel, Abe and Jane have come to Central Park for 50 years. Now Jane is dying, and Abe is comforting her by recounting the life they’ve lived together. It’s an homage to New York City, to romance, and even to loss, as complicated and essential as love itself. And in Ariel Sullivan’s Conform: A Novel, centuries after a catastrophic war nearly decimated humanity, society is now ruled by the technologically advanced Illum. But a rebellion is rising, and outcast Emeline – chosen by the Illum Collin to be his mate – must decide what she will do to stop the group’s increasingly brutal ways. Moderated by Zibby Owens, founder of Zibby Media.
