In The End of My Life Is Killing Me: The Unexpected Joys of a Cancer Slacker, Annabelle Gurwitch chronicles her out-of-the-blue Stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis and her resulting journey as she eschewed the concept of being a “cancer warrior.” Gurwitch embraces the extraordinariness of the ordinary and tiny victories, such as the unshakeable bond of female friendship, that helped her find resilience against despair. In his memoir Showbiz!: My Life as a Middle-Aged Man, comedian Murray Hill opens up about the painful past that led to his unwavering commitment to spread joy. After growing up in an abusive home, Hill escaped and slowly established his identity as a queer, boundary-pushing artist while fighting addiction and mental health issues – eventually finding his way, his chosen family, and himself. Preparing your precious baby bird to spread its wings and leave the nest presents a whole different level of complexity from the sweet and tender “go the f*ck to sleep” era of his early years. Fear not. In Go the F*ck to College (Go the F*ck to Sleep #4), Adam Mansbach summarizes everything you’d ever want to tell your kid – and a few things you’d never dream of saying out loud. Moderating is William Johnson, director of PEN America Florida.
